Upon the request of the Standing Parliamentary Committee for Infrastructure and Environment, the Minister of Infrastructure and Environment has decided not to have the Decree on general rules for spatial planning (Besluit algemene regels ruimtelijke ordening: the 'Barro') enter into effect on 1 October 2011.
This postponement gives the Lower House the opportunity to deal with the draft amendment of the Barro in conjunction with the Barro.

The European Commission is conducting an evaluation of the experiences with the implementation of the REACH Regulation. In this framework, the Centre for Strategy and Evaluation Services is examining, amongst others, what effect the introduction of the REACH Regulation has had on the innovateness of the European chemical industry. Companies may participate in this evaluation by means of submitting a questionnaire.

The Netherlands can only comply in part with its obligations in the area of environment, climate and nature policy. This according to a memorandum of the Planning Agency for the Living Environment (Planbureau voor de leefomgeving: PBL) that was recently sent to the Lower House. The researchers of the PBL have doubts as to the feasibility of the water quality requirements and the target percentage of renewable energy. Spending cuts and the Central Government Agreement with the Municipalities preclude the planned objectives, according to the PBL.
